2018 "Changemakers" Leadership Summit
On May 10, 2018, Partnerships Make A Difference and the "Growing Together" Service-Learning Network will host the 5th annual "Changemakers" Leadership Summit. We are pleased to announce that American Electric Power has once again committed their support as a "Changemaker" sponsor.
At this year’s Summit, teams of students, teachers, and community agency personnel will again engage in team-building, collaboration, and strategic planning activities. They will represent more than 70 urban, rural, and suburban schools in central Ohio (including Columbus City Schools), as well as more than 35 community agencies and organizations. Students in grades 2-12 will join their teachers and community partners in sharing the impact of their service-learning successes from this year and inspiring others to take future action regarding specific local and global issues. We expect a capacity crowd of 250 participants, and we look forward to providing them with a highly interactive and productive day. The "Changemakers" Leadership Summit will again be held at Mid-Ohio Foodbank from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Registration deadline is April 30, 2018.

"Changemakers" Leadership Summit OverviewOnce again, the Growing Together Network "Changemakers" Leadership Summit at Mid-Ohio Foodbank will provide an opportunity for students, teachers and community agencies to shine. With the help of teachers, students will share the highlights of their service-learning accomplishments from the 2017-2018 school year and have a chance to inspire other students and teachers to become involved in their featured issue(s).
Prior to the event, each participating school should choose one (or two) high-quality service-learning projects to highlight from this year. Next, teachers and students should produce a tri-fold display describing the designated project (or schools may bring two display boards, if they prefer). The “Growing Together” Network will provide tri-fold boards as needed. Our Field Coordinators, Sabrina Walters and Jane Hubbard (Karen Patterson is on maternity leave), will contact school “building leaders” to provide helpful information re: what to include on the tri-fold. Just like in past years, the Summit will be a highly interactive, effective, and productive experience for our participants. It will be an exciting opportunity for students, teachers, and community agency representatives to share what they have learned and produced this year, and use their knowledge and passion to inspire other schools and organizations to become involved in similar efforts. 2018 Keynote Presenters . . . The Paragon ProjectWe are so excited to announce that this year’s “Changemakers” Leadership Summit Keynote Presenters will be . . . The Paragon Project. The Paragon Project is a collective of artists, poets and musicians who attend The Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center in Columbus, Ohio (Columbus City Schools). The mission of the Paragon Project is to provide a youth-led platform that gives voice to talented high school performing artists. The Paragon Project empowers students to compose and perform contemporary music that addresses complex social issues that impact teens (and is suitable for all audiences). It is (the Project’s) intention, that the content of each record is used for enjoyment as well as a resource for educators, families, or anyone who interacts with young people. The Paragon Project continues to grow sonically and expand its fan base. In addition to their original compositions, the students also perform covers of classic R&B, Neo Soul, and Hip-Hop songs. The group has landed high profile performances at The Culinary Kickoff to the Kentucky Derby and the 2017 Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards.
