Albuquerque Public Schools (NM) Trains Staff in Project-Based Learning

Beginning 2014-2015, Albuquerque Public Schools is sponsoring district-wide professional development for elementary and middle school staff from selected schools in Project-Based Learning with a strong focus on service-learning. Consultants Kathy Meyer and Ellen Erlanger (Partnerships Make A Difference), along with Marjori Krebs (University of New Mexico) are facilitating these training sessions. This year, workshop participants will be involved in eight full days of training throughout the school year which allows them to develop and practice new skills over time.

What is Project-Based Learning?

In Project Based Learning (PBL), students go through an extended process of inquiry in response to a complex question, problem, or challenge. Rigorous projects help students learn key academic content and practice 21st Century Skills (such as collaboration, communication & critical thinking). -- Buck Institute for Education

What is Service-Learning

Service-Learning is an approach to teaching and learning in which students use academic knowledge and skills to address genuine community needs.

What Our Clients Are Saying

"Thoroughly enjoyable. Passion of presenters drove the 3R’s (Rigor, Relevance, Relationships) through activities that help synthesize my learning of PBL and SLP [project-based learning and service-learning projects]. The time spent developing our understanding and creating an action plan for implementation was most helpful." -- Course participant
