Gadsden ISD (NM) Trains Staff in Project-Based Learning/Service-Learning
Since 2011-2012, Gadsden ISD has sponsored district-wide professional development for K-12 staff in Project-Based Learning with a strong focus on service-learning. Consultants from Partnerships Make A Difference and the University of New Mexico facilitate these training sessions. Each year, workshop participants have been involved in a number of days of training throughout the school year or three-five days in the summer allowing them to develop and practice new skills over time. More than 310 Gadsden ISD educators have been trained in PBL and service-learning as of June 2018!
What is Project-Based Learning?
In Project Based Learning (PBL)/Service-Learning, students go through an extended process of inquiry in response to a complex question, problem, or challenge. Rigorous projects help students learn key academic content and practice 21st Century Skills (such as collaboration, communication & critical thinking). -- Buck Institute for Education
