2018 Service-Learning/PBL Leadership Seminar: Level 1
This interactive graduate course is designed to help teachers more effectively integrate service-learning/PBL, 21st Century Skills, and career development to inspire a "sense of passion and purpose" in their students. This type of instruction enables young people to take charge of their learning and lives as they "create their legacies."
Service-Learning/PBL Leadership Seminar: Level 1 Details
Service-learning is an instructional strategy that directly connects community service with the school curriculum, adding rigor, relevance, and relationships to the learning process and helping students actively address significant local/global needs. It is an especially engaging form of PBL—an instructional approach that enables students to “do the work of real people” by investigating important questions and solving authentic problems.
The SL/PBL Leadership Seminar: Level 1 will meet 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (coffee, etc. available at 8:30 a.m.), on July 24, 25, and 26, 2018. Four required follow-up sessions will be held—September 5, October 3, Nov. 7, and Dec. 5 (4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) to ensure project continuity and support. All sessions will be held at The Graf Center (Upper Arlington Schools), 2020 Builders Place, Columbus, OH, 43204. Participants will have an option of 2-3 semester hours of graduate credit through Ashland University or CEUs.
